Job summary

Mercy Corps in Washington, D.C. is hiring a Senior Policy Advisor to lead policy efforts for Central and South Asia, including Afghanistan and Yemen, and to influence U.S. foreign assistance policy.

You will collaborate with the GPA team, draft policy documents, and engage with Congressional leaders. You will track policy developments, represent Mercy Corps at external events, and help advance advocacy campaigns across domestic and international forums.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in international relations, development, public policy, law or related fields.
• 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate, foreign assistance budget, and/or Africa policy issues.
• Experience in humanitarian, development, and national security sectors.
• Strong political and strategic skills with coalition-building ability.
• Proven ability to research, analyze, and report on policy issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Cultural sensitivity and public relations experience.

Responsibilities

• Shapes legislation and policies relevant to Mercy Corps’ mission.
• Develops and leads GPA portfolios for Central/South Asia, Yemen, and U.S. foreign assistance.
• Develops strategies with field teams to support country-focused advocacy.
