Job summary

Save the Children US is seeking a Lead Associate, Global Development Policy in Washington, DC to support policy and technical work on U.S. foreign assistance and congressional relations.

You will analyze policy, track developments on Capitol Hill, and work with congressional offices to advance priority humanitarian and development programs. The role reports to the Managing Director, Global Development Policy and is a hybrid position based in our DC office.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Successful work experience in a Congressional office, or in an NGO, think-tank, or Executive Branch position focused on congressional relations and/or advocacy.
• Strong understanding of the appropriations process on Capitol Hill.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver multiple projects and assignments, often with competing priorities and deadlines.
• Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English including policy-oriented writing, research and analytical skills.
• This position may require operating a motor vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate advocacy to Congress and administration on foreign assistance budget and appropriations (60%).
• Provide timely analysis of policy and legislative developments related to budget and appropriations process.
• Represent Save the Children’s policy priorities in relevant advocacy coalitions.
• Represent policy priorities at meetings with Congressional offices and/or Administration officials.
• Develop materials for advocacy and external engagement including fact sheets, policy statements, etc.
• Coordinate with Domestic Policy Team on appropriations advocacy across priority accounts.
• Plan and execute advocacy events as needed.
• Actively contribute to broader congressional relations strategy (30%).
• Contribute to policy updates and to the knowledge of political developments.
