Michael Best Strategies(“Strategies”) is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to join our Washington DC office. Specific industry areas of expertise include defense, trade, energy, and procurement. Senior Policy Advisors are experienced mid-level staffers responsible for supporting client services, managing client-related processes, and contributing to strategic initiatives. This is a hybrid position with the ability to work from home one day per week.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Support team to shape and execute client-specific business and government relations strategies across the public and private sectors.
  • Lead and support client engagements with Administration officials, legislators, and senior staff, including strategic meeting preparation, materials development, coordination, and follow-up.
  • Manage and track client priorities, projects, and action items in close coordination with Policy Analysts to ensure momentum, accountability, and timely execution.
  • Analyze legislative, regulatory, and procurement developments impacting client priorities, flagging risks and opportunities in real time.
  • Prepare high quality client deliverables, including opportunity assessments, progress updates, and executive-level briefing materials with the support of the Policy Analysts and other team members.
  • Collaborate with Policy Analysts to ensure meeting summaries and client follow-ups are accurate, actionable, and strategically aligned with client goals.
  • Coordinate internally across teams to align resources, communicate client needs effectively, and ensure consistent delivery of work product.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key legislative, executive branch, and industry stakeholders relevant to assigned clients and issue areas.
Job Requirements
Knowledge & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 6 –8 years of relevant legislative, government affairs, or policy experience in the public and/or private sectors.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive matters.

For District of Columbia applicants only (as required by the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023): The annual compensation range for this position in our DC office is between $120,000 and $160,000. Compensation is determined based on qualifications and experience. This position is considered full-time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm’s 401k plan.
