Job summary

WSP, through its Industrial Center of Excellence, is seeking a Mechanical Designer to craft plumbing systems for complex facilities, focusing on quality and sustainability.

You will design, layout, and review drawings using AutoCAD and Revit, collaborate with engineers, and ensure compliance with codes and client expectations.

This role is based in Austin, TX and offers opportunities to contribute to large-scale projects within a supportive engineering team.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in plumbing design for building systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with plumbing codes and standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and layout of plumbing systems for facilities projects, including potable water, sanitary, storm, and specialty systems.
• Prepare detailed drawings and cost estimates using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Review and apply client-specific and internal drafting standards to ensure full compliance and consistently high quality deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other disciplines to ensure coordinated and efficient designs.
• Follow established QA/QC protocols—ensuring all drafting work complies with documented QA/QC procedures and corrective action requirements.
• Support project development from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Incorporate future-ready solutions and sustainable practices into plumbing designs.
• Participate in site surveys and inspections to verify existing conditions and support design accuracy.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and best practices in plumbing design.
