Qualifications

• 5+ years of dedicated plumbing and mechanical drafting experience in commercial construction.
• Experience mentoring and leading teams of 2+ people.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP and Navisworks Manage (or Fabrication CADmep).
• Deep understanding of commercial plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, etc.).
• Strong ability to read and interpret MEP contract drawings, architectural plans, and structural details.

Responsibilities

• Model 3D plumbing and mechanical piping systems in Autodesk Revit MEP and Fabrication CADmep per BIM execution plans.
• Produce complete installation shop drawings, spool sheets, sleeves, and BOMs for fabrication and field installation.
• Lead multi-trade coordination meetings and drive resolution of clashes with trade partners.
• Review project documents to identify discrepancies and submit RFIs.
• Ensure layouts comply with Florida Building Code, IPC/UPC, and company standards.
• Mentor junior drafters on detailing standards and modeling efficiency.
• Coordinate layout points and sleeve placements for field layout systems.
• Maintain organized drawing repositories and revision histories.

Position Summary

Take command of complex commercial mechanical systems and transform engineering schematics into build-ready, clash-free fabrication models. If you are an experienced MEP drafter looking to anchor high-profile construction projects alongside a high-caliber VDC team, our VDC wants you in Boca Raton.

As a Senior Plumbing / Mechanical Drafter with our VDC, you will take ownership of 3D modeling, coordination, and fabrication detailing for major commercial plumbing and mechanical piping scopes. You will collaborate directly with VDC coordinators, MEP engineers, project managers, and field trades to detect and resolve spatial collisions before field installation. Your work will directly minimize costly field rework and ensure that shop and spool drawings translate seamlessly to jobsite execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Model comprehensive 3D plumbing and mechanical piping systems in Autodesk Revit, and Fabrication CADmep adhering to project BIM execution plans.
• Generate complete, accurate installation shop drawings, piping spool sheets, sleeve drawings, and bills of materials (BOM) for fabrication and field installation.
• Participate actively in multi-trade clash detection coordination meetings using Navisworks Manage, driving issue resolution alongside other trade partners.
• Review mechanical/plumbing contract documents, architectural drawings, and engineering specifications to identify discrepancies and submit timely Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Ensure all plumbing layouts conform to local building codes (including Florida Building Code, New York City Code), IPC/UPC standards, and company detailing guidelines.
• Mentor junior drafters and technicians on detailing standards, modeling efficiency, and MEP fabrication best practices.
• Coordinate layout points and sleeve placements for export to robotic total station systems for precise on-site installation.
• Maintain organized drawing repositories, revision histories, and model file architectures in accordance with project standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of dedicated plumbing and mechanical piping drafting/modeling experience in commercial construction.
• Experience with mentoring and leading teams of 2+ people.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP and Navisworks Manage (or Fabrication CADmep experience strongly preferred).
• Deep understanding of commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water, waste, vent, storm, and natural gas piping systems.
• Strong capability in reading and interpreting MEP contract drawings, architectural plans, and structural details.
• Proven track record leading or co-leading multi-trade coordination processes and resolving complex spatial clashes.
• High attention to detail with proven ability to independently generate fabrication-ready spool and shop drawing packages.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid schedule at our Boca Raton, FL office.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Field installation or apprenticeship experience in plumbing or mechanical piping trades.
• Experience generating point files for Trimble or Leica total station field layout systems.
• Autodesk Certified Professional (Revit MEP / Imperial).
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and local South Florida plumbing codes.
• PE license preferred.
