Job summary

The City of Atlanta is seeking a Plumbing Field Engineer within Parks & Recreation to supervise plumbing field-engineering services and staff, coordinate projects, and manage contractor work within budget.

Responsibilities include training junior technicians, overseeing SOWs, monitoring quality and safety, and coordinating with engineers and officials to ensure reliable potable water supply and code compliance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of plumbing codes, engineering, and plumbing construction practices; sewer gas and backflow prevention devices.
• Skills in organization, management, human relations, and technical understanding; operating computers with ability to streamline complex work processes.
• Ability to develop and administer policies, procedures, plans, and activities and to monitor performance of subordinates against goals; communicate effectively; read blueprints and building codes.

Responsibilities

• Manages contractors' Statements of Work (SOW) and oversees budgetary aspects of projects.
• Trains subordinates to function well as a team to at least journeyman level competency in plumbing and mechanical repair.
• Trains subordinates to complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner without needing constant supervision or guidance.
• Evaluates facility maintenance problems/issues in a timely manner and determines a course of action to resolve problems/issues given budget and resources.
• Schedules and manages necessary subcontractor budget and repairs.
• Becomes familiar with City of Atlanta PPD, Civil Code, Code of Ethics in conjunction with building and safety codes to assist in better managing resources.
• Investigates plumbing related complaints; suggests methods and procedures for repair, re-engineering or replacement of systems and their components.
• Makes site visits to review, inspect and maintain quality control of plumbing systems and installations. Receives, reviews, and logs engineering requests and determines type and scope of work.
• Develop work plans and tracks project costs and time.
• Prepares and/or reviews reports, memos, and other documents, and develops and maintains related files.
• Confers with supervisor, contractors, and others as necessary to provide directions, answer questions, and resolve problems.
• Confers with Civil Engineers, City and other governmental officials, and others as necessary to coordinate work.
• Conducts on-site inspections to ensure that work is performed in conformance with specifications and plans.
