Job summary

Checkout.com in Atlanta is seeking a seasoned Platform Underwriter to join the Platforms Underwriting team. You will analyze business models, perform due diligence, and evaluate financial statements to inform risk-based decisions for Payment Facilitators, Marketplaces, and Staged Digital Wallet Operators.

You’ll collaborate with Commercial, Compliance, Risk, Legal, and Senior Management, while mentoring junior staff and driving improvements in merchant onboarding and risk assessment processes.

Qualifications

• Proficient understanding of Checkout's Platform product offering and ability to independently classify different Platform models.
• Expert-level financial statement analysis and credit exposure assessment ability.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, balancing risk and reward.
• Competent escalation management, prioritizing and resolving escalations.
• Ability to continually monitor and independently manage competing priorities without SLA impact.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
• A passion for operational improvement initiatives and contributing to department initiatives.
• Customer-first approach to delivering creative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct business model analysis and holistic risk assessment of a customer’s profile across Platform models.
• Perform customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence analyses (KYC/KYB/PEP) for prospective customers.
• Analyze P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements for Platform models and high-risk sectors.
• Prepare persuasive summaries for internal stakeholders and risk committees with mitigants and recommendations.
• Represent the Platform Underwriting team in customer calls and meetings with Sales or Account Managers.
• Approve individual credit submissions in line with authority.
• Identify operational issues and propose improvements to merchant onboarding processes.
• Mentor new or junior team members through training and credit approvals.
• Foster collaboration with Sales, Risk, Compliance, Legal and other internal teams.
• Contribute to department and cross-functional projects as required.
