Job summary

Workato, the leading Control and Execution Platform for Enterprise AI, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high‑autonomy team building core internal infrastructure and developer‑facing systems.

You will mentor Rust engineers and libraries in Go, Ruby, Java, Python, and WASM, own planning across multiple workstreams, and partner with Product Managers, Quality Engineering, and Security to ship robust, scalable software.

Qualifications

• Significant software engineering experience before or alongside engineering management.
• Experience managing senior, autonomous engineers.
• Strong background in platform engineering, developer infrastructure, backend infrastructure, or distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, release engineering, developer tooling, or internal engineering platforms.
• Experience owning roadmaps and delivering multi‑quarter engineering initiatives.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and engineering practices.
• Experience managing technical debt alongside product and business priorities.
• Ability to understand complex technical discussions without needing to personally own every implementation decision.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional communication skills.
• Experience hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
• A pragmatic approach to engineering processes: enough structure to make teams effective, without unnecessary bureaucracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead a strong engineering team with ownership of technical domains.
• Manage regular 1:1s, feedback, performance, hiring, onboarding, and team health.
• Create an environment where engineers remain autonomous with clear priorities and accountability.
• Define how products look and the order to build them with Product Managers.
• Collaborate with Quality Engineering and Product Security to deliver high‑quality products.
• Own planning and execution across multiple engineering workstreams.
• Create visibility into priorities, dependencies, timelines, and resources.
• Turn broad technical direction into an executable roadmap.
• Identify and remove blockers to avoid delivery delays.
• Plan releases and maintain the product, including defect triaging.
