Job summary

Astronomer is redefining how companies run Apache Airflow at scale. We seek a Senior Software Engineer to join Platform Engineering, shaping production systems, CI/CD pipelines, and reliability practices for Astro, Observe, and IDE products.

Lead testing, deployment strategies, and cross-team collaboration to scale our PaaS infrastructure, while owning documentation and processes for clarity and growth.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in non-abstract systems design and implementation.
• Proficiency in Python and Go; in-depth Kubernetes experience (CKA or equivalent).
• Experience with observability principles and technologies, including SLI/SLO definition and tracking.
• Strong communication skills, with experience working with a globally distributed team.
• A passion for reliability and operational excellence with low toil.
• Ability to estimate scope of work and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Experience with software development best practices: code review, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation, debugging.
• Proactive approach to ownership and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Make high-quality, data-driven decisions on how to build the next generation of our production platform, then deliver results.
• Own and build how we test, build and deploy code in a high-scale PaaS environment.
• Collaborate across the whole company on production systems design, standards and technology choices.
• Deliver results in a predictable, safe and reliable way.
• Be at the forefront of Platform Engineering practices and evolution.
• Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation for systems and processes.
