Job summary

Shift5 is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to own technical strategy, architecture, and team mentorship for its Platform Engineering group. You will drive release infra, cloud infra across AWS and GovCloud, and guide AI/OS lifecycle initiatives.

You will mentor engineers, lead RFCs, and partner with security and embedded teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant delivery across edge environments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software/platform engineering with senior scale experience.
• Proven track record in architecture, leadership, and mentoring engineers.
• Hands-on mastery of Kubernetes, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, and IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu).
• Experience with artifact security and SBOM generation.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. Security Clearance (US Citizenship required).

Responsibilities

• Architect and operate end-to-end release infrastructure and GitOps pipelines.
• Design and manage a complex AWS estate spanning commercial and GovCloud.
• Lead artifact security and compliant CI/CD pipelines with SBOMs.
• Support OS image builds and AI tooling integrations.
• Author RFCs, run architecture reviews, and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with security, embedded, and field teams across airgapped/edge environments.
