Job summary

Sonoco Products Company is seeking a Plant Process Engineer in Wixom, MI. The role requires hands-on plastic project and process engineering with a focus on design for manufacturing, capital projects, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams, managing equipment purchases, and improving safety and quality on the shop floor. Travel may be required as projects progress.

Qualifications

• Education – 4 Year Engineering Degree preferred but will consider equivalent experience in leu of a degree.
• Experience - 8 years hands on plastic project engineering.
• Preferred Experience – 10 years hands on process and project engineering in a plastics plant.

Responsibilities

• Work safely in a manufacturing environment following plant safety procedures.
• Define and execute on new opportunities with end use customers, including assisting in part design and DFMEA.
• Specify, purchase, track and control new equipment purchases including tools, machines, automation.
• Lead a cross functional team through NPL.
• Propose and lead continuous improvement projects on the production floor with solid ROI.
• Assist the production floor in daily operations including mold troubleshooting, repairs, PM, and refurbishments.
• Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
• Implement visual controls and standard work in department.
• Improve safety initiatives with plant management.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Manage high level CapEx installs and capital packages; procurement through startup.
• This position may manage one large project > $2 MM or multiple smaller projects.
• Manage plant infrastructure, maintenance and environmental compliance.
