Sonoco Products Company in Wixom, MI seeks a hands-on Plant Process Engineer to define and execute customer opportunities, lead equipment sourcing, and drive process improvements in a plastics manufacturing environment. The role interfaces with division engineering, external mold shops, and equipment suppliers to meet Sonoco standards.

Qualifications include a 4-year engineering degree or equivalent experience, 8+ years in plastic project engineering, and strong knowledge of injection molding

Qualifications

• Education: 4 Year Engineering Degree preferred but will consider equivalent experience.
• Experience: 8 years hands on plastic project engineering.
• Experience: 10 years hands on process and project engineering in a plastics plant (preferred).
• Mechanical knowledge of plastic processing equipment including injection molding machines and automation.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma, control charts, root cause analysis, fishbone/ Pareto analysis, SPC.
• Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings.

Responsibilities

• Work safely in a manufacturing environment following plant safety procedures.
• Collaborate with end-use customers to define and execute new opportunities (DFMEA awareness).
• Specify, purchase, track and control new equipment purchases (tools, machines, automation).
• Lead a cross-functional team through NPL (new product launch).
• Propose and lead continuous improvement projects with ROI.
• Assist production floor with mold troubleshooting, repairs, PM, refurbishments.
• Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
• Implement visual controls and standard work in department.
• Support safety initiatives with plant/management.
