Location: This position is on-site at our Hastings, MI facility

Relocation: Relocation assistance available

Position Summary: Provides for the overall direction and coordination of activities in production, supply chain, engineering, scheduling, process improvement, capital investment, distribution, maintenance, safety, regulatory, and training activities in accordance with the policies, principles, and procedures of the company. This position is responsible for all operations at the Hastings, MI, facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs production, continuous improvement, inventory, scheduling, warehousing, and shipping activities, establishes priorities for products while maintaining a cost-effective operation; Verifies and approves daily production for all areas of manufacturing, warehousing & shipping.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, distribution, quality, maintenance, safety and operational activities and/or reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications or related processes; Provides resolution while maintaining cost effective solutions and reducing and/or preventing operational delays.
  • Oversees scheduling and prioritizes work orders for the shop floor (manufacturing & warehousing) in order to meet customer demands.
  • Plan, implement and supervise the 80/20 philosophy by working in all areas of the process including PLS, CLS, Zero UP, In-Lining and MRD.
  • Leads through production cadence and continuous improvement methodologies. Responsible for establishing and leading daily walks (Gemba), plant production meetings, financial reviews, continuous improvement reviews (A3) and capital/strategic planning for the facility.
  • Engages and leads SIOP process, providing insight to the Supply Chain team and ensuring that the Operation has the proper amount of raw materials and buy-out products to fulfill customer demand.
  • Plan, implement and manage programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries and maintain compliance with governing bodies in safety and environmental regulations; Conducts safety audits in compliance with company programs; Initiates safety improvements to equipment and process procedures. Maintain safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment. Ensures compliance of established safety policies and procedures. Support development and training of production and warehouse staff.
  • Maintains the proper level of employees needed to execute the production plan and minimize the overall labor cost; Supervises employees to meet daily production schedule demands; Develops and implements procedures to train employees in the safe and efficient operation of all manufacturing processes; Able to perform the duties of the workers supervised; Resolves worker issues/complaints and/or refers to higher authority for resolution.
  • Develops, revises and approves standard operational, safety, quality and working practices; may observe workers to ensure compliance with standards; Determines best practices and institutes improvements in these areas;
  • Reviews information and inspection reports of machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization; provides oversight to the maintenance PM to include the assurance of equipment PM, maintenance repair and improvements;
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data, and distribution data;
  • Develops and initiates plans for efficient use of materials, machines, trailers, and employees;
  • Acts as a change agent, identifies, and promotes continuous improvement opportunities utilizing data analysis, LSS methodologies, A3s, VSMs, 5S concepts, empowers employees, drives engagement, ownership of processes and tasks & collaboration among team members.
  • First line responsibility for ensuring that the facility is operated and maintained in compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental health and safety laws. To include OSHA & DOT regulations; Managing waste using the proper disposal contractors and working with the EPA to manage runoff of water from rain and keep it particulate free from harmful chemicals. ( Zinc etc.)
  • Establish and develop strong, positive working relationships with the union by following the terms of collective bargaining agreement and actively participating in negotiations ensuring right balance between customer, employee, and shareholder interests.

Education and/or Experience:

Major: Engineering or Business

Years of Experience in Manufacturing: 5+ Years

Years of Experience in Warehousing & Distribution: 2+ Years

Supervisory Responsibilities:

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and experience with regulatory agencies like, OSHA, EPA, DOT, ANSI and local agencies.

Licenses / Certifications: Certified in CPR & First Aid

Physical Requirements:Approximate time spent to be included in physical demands such as walking, or bending, specific lifting requirements (lbs.) and/or other requirements such as vision or hearing.

Work Conditions

Environment: Light Manufacturing Travel: <10%

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and inside/outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The manufacturing environment is not environmentally controlled resulting in exposure to winter cold and summer heat in the work area.
