Job summary

Johnson County Government is seeking a Chief Building Inspector in Olathe, KS. This role requires overseeing plan reviews and inspections, ensuring compliance with adopted codes, and coordinating with fire districts and other agencies.

The candidate should have extensive knowledge of building and fire codes and strong organizational skills. The position offers full benefits and a Monday–Friday schedule with occasional after-hours inspections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
• Five years of experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
• Five years of experience in building and fire codes.
• Experience may substitute for degree.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive plan review for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure code compliance.
• Conducts field inspections for construction, evaluating structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire code aspects.
• Communicates results and discrepancies to applicants and professionals; coordinates with agencies for permit approvals.
• Responds to questions on building codes and provides resolutions during plan review and inspections.
• Acts as on-call plan examiner to assist with permits and code inquiries.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with contractors, designers, public officials, and the public.
