Job summary

Qualifications include an Associate’s degree in construction management or related training, ICC plans examiner certification, and substantial plan review

Qualifications

• Requires thorough knowledge of building, residential, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy, accessibility, fire, and existing building codes.
• Evaluates amendments and ordinances to confirm regulatory compliance; inspects buildings under construction.
• Prepares technical reports, comment letters, and coordinates permits; may issue stop work orders when needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical plan reviews for code compliance and coordinates permit issuance.
• Reinspects projects to verify corrections and provides guidance to rectify violations.
• Coordinates with Fire Marshal and other departments to ensure consistent reviews and enforcement.
• Provides public assistance on code requirements, conducts site visits, and prepares compliance reports.
• Conducts field evaluations and recommends efficiency improvements in drawings and space usage.
• Maintains records of construction permits and supports in pre-construction and close-out meetings.
• Acts as Building Official in absence and supports disaster response and emergency surveys.
