Job summary

The City of Napa seeks a Plans Examiner to review industrial, commercial and residential plans for compliance with the California Building Code and local ordinances. This role collaborates with permit technicians, inspectors and the Chief Building Official to ensure safe, compliant construction projects.

Ideal candidates will hold ICC Plans Examiner and Building Inspector Certifications within one year of hire, and bring strong communication and analytical skills to a busy building division.

Qualifications

• Experience in building/plans examination or similar setting.
• Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations and safety standards.
• Ability to interpret codes and provide technical recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for compliance with building and safety codes.
• Perform field inspections and resolve plan-related issues.
• Determine submittal requirements for permit applications and assist applicants in achieving compliance.
