Job summary

The City of Austin’s Planning Department seeks two Senior Planners to support the zoning team, coordinating cases from application review to City Council action. The role will contribute to shaping Austin's development pattern through this broad range of zoning projects.

Ideal candidates will have a strong planning background and the ability to manage complex cases while engaging with stakeholders. A hybrid work schedule and occasional evening/weekend meetings are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or related field; five (5) years of planning-related work.
• Twelve (12) semester hours of relevant graduate coursework may substitute for six (6) months of required experience, with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
• Experience in planning-related work may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates division/section activities with other division/sections.
• Researches information as requested and needed.
• Reviews analyzed data to discover patterns and/or discrepancies.
• Assists in developing operating procedures and division/section budget.
• Assists in developing and evaluating plans, criteria, etc for a variety of projects, programs, and activities.
• Attends City Council and other meetings to provide technical advice and assistance.
• Writes informational reports and drafts legal documents such as contracts, regulations, ordinance amendments, resolutions, etc.
