Job summary

City of Austin seeks a Planner Principal to oversee the planning activities across regional, urban, and transportation planning areas. You will lead division projects, coordinate with other departments, and guide data-driven analyses to inform policy and budgeting.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in demographic methods, GIS, and community engagement, plus the ability to communicate complex findings to City Council, staff, and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or related field, plus 6 years planning experience.
• Graduate coursework substitution may substitute for 6 months of experience, up to 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Oversee division activities and coordinate with other divisions and departments.
• Develop short- and long-range plans for regional, urban, and transportation projects.
• Provide technical advice and assist in budgeting, grant applications, and data visualization.
