Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Senior Planner in the Planning Department to perform complex urban planning duties, coordinate zoning cases, and provide technical guidance through the zoning process up to City Council action.

The role requires strong knowledge of planning principles, ability to manage multiple tasks, and experience with public meetings. A hybrid schedule is available, with potential evening/weekend commitments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field; plus five (5) years of planning related work.
• 12 semester hours of relevant graduate coursework may substitute for six (6) months of required experience with up to two (2) years maximum substitution.
• Experience in planning-related work may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate division/section activities with other divisions/sections.
• Review analyzed data to discover patterns and discrepancies.
• Assist in developing operating procedures and budgets.
• Develop and evaluate plans, criteria for projects, programs, and activities.
• Attend City Council and board meetings to provide technical advice.
