Job summary

City & Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Community Development Department invites applications for a Senior Planner. The role emphasizes current and long-range planning, mentorship, and training of early-career planners while interpreting the CBJ Land Use Code and related policies.

The ideal candidate will have experience in land use, supervision or team leadership, and familiarity with permitting software. In-person work in Juneau with potential telework after probation is available, subject to policy.

Qualifications

• Experience/education in urban or regional planning, public administration or policy.
• Experience in land use code interpretation and implementation, mentoring staff, permit software, or grant management.
• AICP accreditation preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead current and long-range planning efforts and prepare clear staff reports.
• Onboard, train, and mentor early-career planners and staff.
• Interpret CBJ Land Use Code and related policies; manage complex applications.
