Job summary

City & Borough of Juneau in Juneau, AK is seeking a Senior Planner to lead current and long‑range planning efforts, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior staff. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in planning, civil engineering, geography, architecture, business or public administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Three (3) years of professional level experience in community or urban planning, with specialties listed.
• Must obtain AICP, ASFPM, PMP, or other approved certification within 18 months of appointment.
• A current Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

Responsibilities

• Onboarding, training, and mentoring early‑career planners.
• Interpret and apply the CBJ Land Use Code (Title 49), comprehensive plans, and related policies.
• Attend evening Planning Commission, Assembly, and other boards meetings as needed.
• Lead development of area plans and long‑range planning efforts; manage public engagement and interagency coordination.
• Administer the Juneau Affordable Housing Fund and staff the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and Historic Resources Advisory Committee.
