Job summary

City of Grand Prairie is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to supervise complex development projects, coordinate multidisciplinary reviews, and provide guidance to staff. The role supports the Comprehensive Plan and updates to development regulations.

Responsibilities include managing zoning changes, plats, site plans, and development proposals, while preparing staff reports and presentations for public meetings. Strong leadership and regulatory interpretation are essential in this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, City and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional planning experience involving development review, land use planning, zoning administration, development services, or related municipal planning functions.
  • A Master’s degree in Planning or closely related field may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Experience with development regulation interpretation, project management, and presentations to boards or officials is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or supervise complex development projects and coordinate multidisciplinary reviews.
  • Review zoning changes, plats, site plans, development plans, and other applications for compliance.
  • Present analyses and recommendations to Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, and boards.
  • Coordinate with departments, external agencies, developers, engineers, architects, and property owners.
