Job summary

City of Grand Prairie seeks a Senior Planner to lead development review, project management, and implementation of planning initiatives. The role coordinates multidisciplinary reviews, guides less experienced staff, and manages complex developments and regulatory updates.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or related field and 3 years of professional planning experience; a Master’s may substitute. A Texas Driver’s License is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, City and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible professional planning experience involving development review and land use planning.
• A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of the required experience.
• Texas Class C Driver's License required.
• AICP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project manager for development applications including zoning changes, plats, site plans, and other applications.
• Coordinate review of development proposals with internal departments, external agencies, developers, engineers, architects, and property owners.
• Review and interpret development regulations to determine compliance and provide recommendations.
• Manage complex development projects with multiple stakeholders and departments.
• Present development proposals, planning analyses, and recommendations to boards, commissions, or elected officials.
