Job summary

The City of Ventura is seeking a Senior Planner to join the Community Development Department. Under general direction, the Senior Planner leads and coordinates day-to-day activities of a unit and performs advanced professional planning work in areas such as land use, environmental analysis, affordable housing, and economic development.

You will manage complex projects, supervise staff, and prepare reports for the City Council and commissions.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Architecture, Public Administration, Affordable Housing or closely related field.
• Four years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience, including at least two years in the assigned specialty with lead responsibility.
• AICP certification desirable; California driver license may be required depending on assignment.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple complex projects and programs related to land use planning, CDBG/HOME, community revitalization, affordable housing, and economic development.
• Coordinate and direct the work of professional and technical staff, establish project scopes, and monitor progress.
• Develop and implement new programs, policies, and procedures; lead task forces as needed.
• Prepare and deliver reports to the City Council, Planning Commission, and other agencies.
• Engage with developers, neighborhood groups, and stakeholders to support collaboration and public engagement.
