Job summary

Actalent in Austin, TX seeks a Mid-to-Senior Piping Designer with chemical process piping experience to lead design on complex projects. You will develop detailed piping and equipment layouts, guide other designers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality design packages for process and utility systems.

The role requires both technical excellence and leadership, coordinating design efforts, communicating with clients, and supporting projects from conceptual design

Qualifications

• At least 15 years of piping design experience, preferably with a focus on chemical process piping.
• Demonstrated experience designing process chemical, steam/condensate, and utility piping systems.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D for piping and equipment layout and modeling.
• Strong experience using Revit for piping and related coordination.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for detailed design and drafting tasks.
• Experience using Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and coordination.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and convert process information into accurate and efficient piping layouts.
• Comfort working independently and within smaller project teams, taking ownership of assigned scopes.
• Ability to lead when needed, coordinate the work of others, and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
• Experience preparing construction drawing packages, addenda, and bulletins.
• Capability to review equipment shop drawings and verify design accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with clients, engineers, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the design lead on piping projects, within single-discipline and multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead and coordinate the work of other piping designers, reviewing drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Interpret P&IDs and translate process information into equipment layouts and piping designs.
• Develop detailed piping and equipment designs for process and utility systems.
• Review equipment shop drawings and verify design accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
• Participate in client-facing design meetings to communicate progress and present concepts.
• Prepare construction drawing packages, addenda, and bulletins.
• Identify scope changes and notify Project Manager accordingly.
• Support construction activities by answering design-related questions and participating in meetings.
• Assist with specifications, design estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify requirements and maintain alignment.
• Manage priorities across multiple projects and deadlines.
• Collaborate with teams across multiple offices using digital coordination tools.
• Travel to project sites to support design development and coordination.
