Job summary

Zachry Group seeks a Principal Piping Designer to lead engineering and design tasks for major projects in the oil and gas sector. You will guide layout, equipment spacing, and detailed piping work while ensuring industry standards are met.

You will mentor junior designers, review complex layouts, and coordinate with supervisors and engineers on FEL/FEED-level work, maintaining quality and schedule discipline.

Qualifications

• Petrochemical, refining, pharmaceutical, or power plant project experience.
• Strong piping design skills per API/ASME/PIP.
• Education: HS diploma or associate; bachelor’s preferred.
• SME on project change and change management.
• SME on complex schedule development with respect to precursor and successors and resource loading.
• Advanced knowledge of expansion joint design and associated differences.
• Advanced knowledge of spring supports and functionality including differences between types of engineered supports.
• Advanced ability and understanding of recognizing project change and basic understanding of change management procedure with ability to translate to engineering change notices.
• Served in several field assignment specific to design, constructability, and means/methods on piping installation and fit up.
• SME level resource capable of supporting the development all details associated with piping as it pertains to cost estimates.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering and design tasks for assigned projects.
• Review proposals/RFQs and develop competitive execution strategies for early FEL/FEED project RFQs.
• Complete complex piping design and advanced equipment layouts per industry practices.
• Mentor junior designers and drafters; participate in reviews and design validations.
• Audit adherence to the Quality process and workflow of other designers on the project team.
• Initiate conceptual physical design requirements with supervisors and engineers.
• Coordinate and manage projects with workshare efforts.
• Develop complex line study layouts to support detailed piping design.
• Manage schedule development, cost estimates, and risk assessments for piping work.
• Write detailed execution plans and translate changes into engineering notices.
