Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Sr. Designer/Checker, Piping to produce design layouts and drawings, perform field surveys, and support piping design tasks. The role includes checking drawings for accuracy and acting as the Discipline Design Lead (DDL) or Project Design Lead (PDL) for projects.

The position requires 4+ years of piping design experience, strong CAD skills (CADWorx/PDMS/AVEVA), and familiarity with piping codes and safety practices. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline with piping focus preferred, or equivalent education/experience.
• 4+ years piping design and layout experience; 2+ years at Matrix preferred.
• Advanced 3D CAD systems knowledge (CADWorx, PDMS, AVEVA); AVEVA platform preferred.
• Strong understanding of piping, mechanical drafting disciplines and codes (API, ASME).
• Safety in Design exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic and complex facility, equipment, and piping layouts; produces and checks drawings for accuracy.
• Leads discipline project work as DDL and may act as PDL, coordinating internal/external designers/drafters.
• Assists with scope, budget and schedule, and man-hour estimates.
• Reviews P&IDs, vendor drawings, and piping details for constructability and safety.
• Communicates urgency to solve problems and drive completion.
• Participates in project meetings and supports training of junior staff.
