Job summary

Meta’s LTD team designs the physical infrastructure for a rapidly scaling IP and optical backbone. We seek a network engineer with proven experience in structured cabling and ISP/OSP design to own Backbone POPs, ILA huts, and related sites.

Requires 6+ years in telecom infra design, fiber fundamentals expertise, and ability to convert topology into concrete build plans. Knowledge of IP hardware in POP/DC spaces is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years designing physical infrastructure/fiber-optic infra (OSP/ISP) in telecom
• Strong knowledge of fiber fundamentals, OTDR testing, and optical-budget basics
• Turn network/optical design into a physical build with rack elevations and layouts
• Understanding of IP network hardware in POP/data center spaces
• Experience producing clear technical docs and cross-team vendor communication
• Bachelor's in Electrical/Telecommunications Eng or related field, or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with optical line systems and DWDM is a plus
• AI/prompts skill development and staying current with AI tech is a plus
• 10+ years designing physical infrastructure in hyperscale environments
• Python scripting for design automation and using topology/GIS data
• Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive impact
• Experience with responsible AI practices (risk assessment, bias mitigation)

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, engineer and implement scalable physical infrastructure for backbone POPs and ILA huts
• Translate topology into physical designs — rack layouts, space and power requirements
• Own high-level site design standards and refresh them as topology evolves
• Produce BOMs and material forecasts for manufacturers
• Engage with vendors and shelter manufacturers on components and supply
• Produce engineering documentation and represent designs in cross-functional reviews
• Support design-automation/tooling for BOMs and fiber-plant modeling
• Support site sourcing strategy and floor plans against design standards
• Review low-level site design migration plans with delivery teams
