Job summary

Meta’s LTD team designs the physical infrastructure for a rapidly scaling IP and optical backbone. We seek a network engineer to own Inside Plant and Outside Plant design for Backbone POPs and ILA huts, overseeing structured cabling, fiber plant, rack layouts, power delivery and deployment coordination.

The role requires extensive fiber-infrastructure experience, site design standards ownership, and collaboration with network engineering, sourcing and vendor teams to drive scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years designing physical infrastructure/fiber-optic infrastructure (OSP/ISP) in telecom, backbone/transport, carrier or hyperscale environments.
• Strong knowledge of fiber fundamentals and optical components (LC/MPO, fusion & ribbon splicing).
• Ability to translate network/optical design into physical builds: rack elevations, power, fiber counts, ODF/patch layouts, cable trays and splice plans.
• Understand IP network hardware specifications in POP and data center space.
• Experience producing clear technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, engineer and implement scalable physical infrastructure for backbone POPs and sites including structured cabling and fiber plant.
• Translate IP/optical topology into physical designs — rack layouts, space and power, fiber counts, splice plans and patch schedules.
• Own site design standards and refresh them as topology evolves.
• Produce material forecasts and BOMs for manufacturers.
• Engage with vendors on components, harness/panel design, and supply to scale network topologies.
• Produce engineering documentation and represent designs in cross-functional reviews.
