Job summary

Toyota North America is seeking a passionate Physical AI Senior Engineer to drive AI-enabled automation in its Manufacturing Center of Excellence. You will integrate AI, robotics, and sensor fusion to advance manufacturing capabilities across North America.

Reporting to MIT Manager, you will guide technology learning, PPC tests, and production deployment, collaborating across robotics, controls, and plant teams to reduce costs and improve competitiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, CS, DS, EE, ME, or related field.
• Experience with manufacturing automation deployments.
• Experience in robotics, AI/ML, or advanced automation development.
• Full-stack mindset and ability to build complete solutions with teams.
• Strong Python, C++, ROS; experience with diverse sensors (RGBD, LiDAR, ToF).

Responsibilities

• Integrate and deploy AI-enabled robotic solutions to improve manufacturing capability, flexibility, and performance.
• Develop and implement computer vision, ML, and sensor fusion for real-world manufacturing apps (bin picking, part handling, inspection).
• Build and optimize AI models for industrial hardware with latency and reliability constraints.
• Bridge AI Python scripts with industrial automation standards.
• Use simulation tools for concept validation and Sim2Real deployment.
• Lead equipment trials, debugging, and production deployment (yokoten).
• Collaborate with robotics, controls, and plant teams to integrate AI into production systems.
• Evaluate and implement emerging Physical AI technologies through benchmarking and supplier engagement.
• Ensure safety, reliability, and manufacturability per standards and risk assessments.
• Present concepts and results to stakeholders and leadership.
• Manage contractors for testing cells and document to support scaling.
