Job summary

IonQ is seeking a Senior Photonics Test Engineer for its Quantum Interconnect Division in Boston. The role focuses on characterizing on-chip photonic devices and expanding testing capabilities to support next-generation quantum processors.

The candidate will contribute to room-temperature and cryogenic testing, develop automated procedures, and collaborate with multiple teams to improve test features and data quality.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in hands-on characterization of PIC devices or equivalent experience.
• Master or PhD in engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Programming experience in Python, Matlab for test automation.
• Experience with test instrumentation for characterizing classical integrated photonics devices.
• Strong data processing, visualization, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, upgrade, and expand testing infrastructure for characterizing classical PIC devices at chip and wafer scale.
• Develop and perform robust procedures for component-level characterization.
• Automate the test pipeline, including instrument setup, data acquisition, and analysis.
• Conduct characterization using room-temperature and cryogenic setups and provide data-driven feedback.
• Collaborate with design, packaging, and system teams to optimize testing features.
