Job summary

IonQ in Boston, MA seeks a Senior Photonic Test Development Engineer to lead the optical testing infrastructure for on-chip devices, using room-temperature and cryogenic setups. You will design, upgrade, and expand test systems, automate data acquisition and analysis, and collaborate across design, packaging, and system teams to enable scalable characterization.

The role requires 3+ years in optical spectroscopy, advanced degrees, laser and fiber expertise, and strong Python/MATLAB coding for

Qualifications

3+ years of professional experience in optical spectroscopy.
Master or Ph.D. in engineering, physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with test instrumentation for room-temperature optical test setups.
Strong data processing, visualization, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with free-space optics and imaging systems.
Experience with laser sources and fiber components.
Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or similar for test automation.

Responsibilities

Design, upgrade, and expand testing infrastructure for characterizing classical and quantum photonics devices at chip and wafer level.
Develop and document robust testing procedures for component-level characterization.
Automate the test pipeline including instrument setup, data acquisition, and analysis.
Collaborate with design, packaging, and system teams to optimize testing features and develop test flow library.
