• Significant experience leading photography or visual journalism at a major editorial organization.
• Exceptional visual taste and editorial judgment across platforms.
• Deep knowledge of contemporary photography and a broad network of photographers and creatives.
• Strong people manager with ability to set direction and provide feedback.
• Proven ability to lead through organizational and workflow changes.
• Fluency in digital and social storytelling and openness to new formats.
• Excellent communication and budgeting skills for editorial projects.

• Set the creative and editorial vision for The New Yorker’s photography across platforms.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the Photo department with a collaborative culture.
• Build an integrated approach to Photo operations across print and digital.
• Conceive visual approaches with editors, writers, designers, and photo editors.
• Oversee photography from concept through publication with strong editorial judgment.
• Develop original photography and cultivate a network of photographers and talent.
• Partner with Art, Video, Social, and other teams to expand visual storytelling across formats.
• Oversee high-risk assignments with rigorous journalistic, ethical, legal, and safety standards.
• Manage the department’s budget and resources and balance ambition with stewardship.
• Represent Photo in editorial planning and cross-functional conversations.
