Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Support professional to join a busy pediatric setting. You will greet patients, perform phlebotomy, and support specimen collection and lab operations.

Responsibilities include specimen handling, data entry in EMR, coordination with care teams, and staff training while maintaining safety and quality. This is a full-time role with strong benefits and career growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or medical technology preferred.
• Formal training as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist required; 2 years of Phlebotomist II experience.
• Required certification in phlebotomy, PBT (ASCP) or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of medical/laboratory terminology.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of hospital and laboratory computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients/families in a friendly and courteous manner and communicates with staff.
• Register and check-in/out patients, verify orders, and use EMR for lab workflows and charges.
• Obtain blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary procedures; label specimens correctly.
• Prepare specimens and ensure proper storage/shipment.
• Prioritize work to support time-critical tests and coordinate referrals as needed.
• Resolve specimen issues and communicate with care units and leadership.
• Orient/train staff and participate in ongoing competency assessments.
• Assist in scheduling and daily work allocation to optimize service delivery.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and stocking of supplies in the workstation.
• May work at other Lurie facility locations as needed.
