Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a Phlebotomist III to collect blood samples and support pediatric patients.

The role requires phlebotomy certification, formal phlebotomy or medical assistant training, and at least 2 years as a Phlebotomist II in a fast-paced lab. Responsibilities include patient interaction, specimen handling, order verification, and EMR system use, with opportunities to train staff and contribute to lab operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Formal training as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist required; 2 years as Phlebotomist II.
• Certification in phlebotomy (PBT/ASCP) or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of lab terminology and terminology used in hospital systems.
• Ability to resolve problems using appropriate resources and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and coordinate with families and staff in the laboratory.
• Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary methods with proper IDs.
• Verify orders, label specimens, and utilize EMR/lab systems for data entry.
• Prioritize work to ensure timely processing of time‑sensitive tests.
• Train new staff and participate in ongoing competency assessments.
