Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy procedures, venipuncture, and specimen processing in a hospital setting. You will ensure specimen quality, assist with IV/vascular access as needed, and support patient safety and comfort under established procedures.

Responsibilities include using the laboratory computer system, labeling specimens, and coordinating with lab staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required and an accredited phlebotomy program is required.
• Healthcare environment experience is required.
• Certification as a registered phlebotomist is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains venous and/or capillary blood specimens according to established procedures.
• Utilizes a computerized system for logging and tracking specimen collection and patient information.
• Operates simple medical laboratory equipment, such as a centrifuge and microscope.
• Communicates with laboratory and medical staff to resolve problems and properly identify and label specimens.
• Responds to STAT phlebotomy requests when indicated.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk during phlebotomy duties.
• May receive and process specimens for testing in various departments.
• Operates centrifuge and stores specimens appropriately.
• Enters patient demographic data into the laboratory system and manages records.
