Marathon Petroleum Corporation in Anchorage, Alaska is seeking a Senior Personal Safety Professional to support West-Northwest Area Terminal Operations. The role provides safety leadership, audits, training, and risk mitigation across Alaska and Washington, with substantial travel.

You will review plans, support Life Critical, Contractor Safety, and incident response, mentor staff, and help pursue OSHA VPP certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 6 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Experience managing complex projects with limited support.
• Strong safety program knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the local point of contact for all safety programs for the coverage area, including Behavior Based Safety and leadership engagement.
• Participate in monthly safety meetings and improve the quality and value of safety meetings.
• Provide safety training and assess Life Critical skills; develop risk-mitigation plans.
• Review and approve Commissioning, Decommissioning, and Recommissioning Plans; MOC docs; Energy Isolation plans.
• Review Life Critical tasks, work permits, excavations, and lift plans; conduct audits and site visits.
• Develop and review operations and safety procedures; advocate for front line employees.
• Respond to emergency events and serve within the Incident Command System (ICS); participate in health and safety plans as needed.
• Mentor less experienced team members; support OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs certification.

Summary:

Field Safety - Senior Personal Safety Professional

This posting is for a Personal Safety Professional (PSP) supporting the Logistics and Storage organization from Anchorage, Alaska. The selected PSP will provide safety oversight and technical support for West-Northwest Area Terminal Operations across Alaska and Washington. Working closely with Terminal Leadership and Operations, the PSP will help achieve safety goals and objectives through day-to-day operational support, project-related work, monthly safety meetings and initiatives, project reviews, safety training, auditing, and safety program management. The PSP will also participate in emergency response events and drills. Because the role supports multiple Regions and Areas across a large geographic footprint, the successful candidate must be effective at working independently, prioritizing competing demands, and managing responsibilities with limited direct oversight.

Travel is estimated at 40-50%. Pending business needs, asset growth and resource fluctuation, the position coverage areas (outside of the host area) may change to support the business.

The primary objective of this role is to provide visible field leadership and practical safety expertise that help Operations identify risk, strengthen safeguards, and execute work safely across the assigned coverage area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the local point of contact for all safety programs for the coverage area, including being a cultural influencer with regards to Behavior Based Safety, leadership engagement and the Elite Safety Leader journey.
• Participate in monthly safety meetings and assist operations with continuously improving the quality and value of their safety meetings.
• Provide safety training and evaluate employees' Life Critical skills. Assess safety risks within facilities and project scopes, then develop and execute appropriate risk-mitigation plans.
• Support project-related work by reviewing and approving Commissioning, Decommissioning, and Recommissioning Plans; Management of Change documentation; Energy Isolation plans; and other safety-support plans. Support the field execution of safety programs, including Life Critical, Contractor Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and AWARE.
• Review Life Critical tasks, work permits, excavations, and lift plans to identify and correct deficiencies and opportunities for improvement. Conduct audits and job-site visits to identify and mitigate hazards and address compliance or conformance issues.
• Provide input in the development and review of operations and safety procedures and standards. Serve as an advocate for front line employees to support, educate and help them work safely.
• Respond to emergency events and serve within the Incident Command System (ICS). Responsibilities may include air monitoring, developing health and safety plans, and performing other response actions as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
• Mentor less experienced members of the team.
• Support Operations in maintaining or pursuing OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs certification.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required with 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with 4 or more years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with limited support.
• Demonstrated ability to identify risk and implement mitigations based on knowledge of the business.
• A valid Driver’s License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, or other related field is preferred
• A relevant industry certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) is preferred
• A strong background in oil and gas operations, safety, or both is preferred.
