Job summary

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) seeks a Senior Environmental Planner (Permitting) to lead permitting strategy for land use and environmental approvals in the Pacific Northwest. You will pursue and manage local, state, and federal permits, including SEPA/NEPA, while guiding project teams.

You will mentor junior staff, help grow client relationships, and contribute to market leadership. This onsite Seattle-based role emphasizes collaboration and a strong employee‑owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree with major coursework in environmental, urban, or transportation planning, geography, public policy, science, or related interdisciplinary field.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant, professional experience in environmental planning and permitting.
• Experience developing permitting strategies and navigating complex approval processes in WA and OR.

Responsibilities

• Lead permitting strategy and day‑to‑day management of land use and environmental permits and approvals.
• Produce technical work and written products; serve as subject matter expert.
• Mentor and review junior staff, providing feedback and career development guidance.
