Sauron, the home security company of the future, seeks a Senior Perception Engineer in San Francisco to own the perception architecture, optimizing accuracy, latency, and cost across hardware, cloud, and software. You will write substantial code in C++, Python, and ML frameworks, collaborating with hardware and product teams to advance a trustworthy perception system.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production systems, including staff-level scope.
• Experience with perception or machine learning for hardware products in safety-critical domains.
• Strong C++21/ C++20 skills with lifetime, threading, and shutdown semantics.
• Hands-on experience with media pipelines (GStreamer) and video stacks (NVIDIA DeepStream).
• Applied computer vision with multi-object tracking or camera fusion.
• Solid understanding of linear algebra, optimization, statistics and algorithms.
• Experience across the full deep-learning lifecycle (PyTorch, custom ops, edge inference).
• Python fluency for large-scale logic and tooling.
• Ability to set technical direction and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the perception architecture, balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Define sensing requirements and determine what belongs in the model vs the compiled service.
• Drive end-to-end perception quality with evaluation data and regression harnesses.
• Fuse sensor observations robustly under occlusion and varying lighting.
• Lead the team and interfaces perception exposes to product and hardware.
• Develop scalable solutions from cloud to embedded devices and pipelines.
