Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking an Advanced Software Engineer in New York, NY. This IT role focuses on delivering secure, scalable software within the Information Technology division to support MTA’s transportation network.

You'll work across the full software lifecycle, applying strong coding skills, collaboration, and governance to ensure reliable, high-quality systems. Telework is eligible, with standard hours and a 7.5-hour workday as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Sciences or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
• Certifications such as CSD, CSM, CSDP, CSSLP, AWS, Azure, CSTP are valued.

Responsibilities

• Leads requirements management, software engineering, testing across complex initiatives.
• Owns high-value services and guides large projects within constraints.
• Drafts and maintains software support processes and conducts incident resolution.
• Develops acceptance criteria and test cases for functional and non-functional requirements.
• Plans user experience design for large programs and ensures usability and accessibility.
• Maintains tools to track system information and audits systems for standards.
• Oversees quality and safety assurance assessments with cross-functional teams.
• Manages supplier relationships and contract terms, SLAs, and KPIs.
• Keeps knowledge up-to-date on software engineering practices and technologies.
• Mentors staff and provides technical guidance to project teams.
