Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced PCB design engineer to craft high-performance PCBs for aerospace applications on the ACE team. You will build and maintain Altium libraries, configure automated tool flows, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to optimize design and manufacturing processes.

You will lead and mentor others, contribute to design reviews, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7 or more years of experience in PCB development, with at least 5 years directly related to Altium tool configuration and process automation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of PCB best practices for design, manufacturing, assemble and testing.
  • Familiarity with PCB assembly industry standards and regulations such as IPC-6012 Class 3.
  • Strong understanding of digital, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed layout, and design including impedance-controlled stack-up and multi-layer boards.
  • Ability to create complex, detailed PCB layout designs including fine-pitch BGA routing (microvias, blind–buried vias, etc)
  • Ability to create and maintain symbol/footprint libraries including complex devices such as large pin-count connectors and BGAs.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Excellent communication skils, attention to detail and strong task ownership
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout high-performance, high-reliability PCBs for aerospace applications
  • Develop and maintain board eCAD design libraries, including part footprints and related database information
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical and software product developers to configure and automate tool flows and processes
  • Configure and automate industry-leading software (Altium Enterprise Agile) to optimize PCB and library development leveraging AI where possible
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any PCB design and library development tool and process issues
  • Ensure design and manufacturing practices adhere to industry standards and regulations
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for PCB layout and design
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on PCB design layout/library and Altium best practices
  • Contribute to PCB/PCBA design reviews by providing DFM/DFA/DFT and similar value-added info
  • Collaborate in defining PCB development process improvements (procedures and checklists)
