Job summary

Alaskan Copper and Brass Company in Kent, WA is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to process biweekly payroll, audit data, calculate adjustments, and maintain records. The role serves as backup for salaried and Canadian payroll processing.

Responsibilities include end-to-end payroll processing for hourly employees, ensuring accurate tax withholding, managing employee data in the payroll system, and generating payroll-related reports for management and HR.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of payroll processing experience preferred.
• Excellent data entry, 10-key, and mathematical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other business software applications.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently.
• Knowledge of payroll compliance requirements, wage and hour regulations, and payroll tax practices.

Responsibilities

• Payroll Processing: Perform end-to-end processing of multi-state biweekly payroll for hourly employees.
• Compliance & Tax Management: Ensure accurate calculation and withholding of federal, state, and local taxes, as well as voluntary and involuntary deductions (e.g., medical benefits, 401(k), court-ordered garnishments).
• System Maintenance: Manage, update, and troubleshoot employee data within the payroll system, including rate changes, new hire setups, terminations, and department transfers.
• Auditing and Reconciliation: Conduct routine pre- and post-payroll audits to verify hours, rate changes, and retro-pay calculations.
• Employee Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, resolve discrepancies promptly, and explain payroll deductions and tax-related matters in a professional and customer-focused manner.
• Reporting: Generate payroll, labor distribution, attendance, and related reports for management, Accounting, and Human Resources.
• Other duties: Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the payroll manager.
