Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and oversee the full payroll function for a large, primarily hourly workforce. This role requires a hands-on leader with extensive multi-state payroll expertise, a strong understanding of California payroll compliance, and a proven ability to develop and manage a high-performing payroll team. The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a multi-state employee population, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
- Review, audit, and approve payroll while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Ensure compliance with complex California payroll laws, including regular rate of pay, shift differentials, paid sick leave, meal and rest break requirements, and prevailing wage regulations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the payroll team by establishing performance expectations, providing coaching, and fostering accountability.
- Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and Operations to resolve payroll issues and improve payroll processes.
- Maintain payroll system integrity and identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and compliance-related issues.
- Ensure accurate payroll reporting and support internal and external audits as needed.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience managing multi-state payroll with advanced knowledge of California payroll compliance.
- Experience processing payroll for a large, predominantly hourly workforce.
- Strong understanding of regular rate of pay calculations, shift differentials, sick leave regulations, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Hands-on experience processing, reviewing, and approving payroll.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing payroll teams while driving accountability and performance.
- Strong experience with ADP, preferably Workforce Manager and Essential Time.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
