Job summary

PlayPower, Inc. is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to lead end-to-end payroll processing across multiple U.S. states and Canada. You will ensure accurate, timely, and compliant cycles and serve as a backup for critical payroll functions.

This hands-on role requires ADP Workforce Now expertise, strong Excel skills, and the ability to handle high-volume payroll with strict deadlines, confidentiality, and audit support.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of progressively responsible payroll experience.
  • Independent end-to-end processing of complex, multi-state payrolls.
  • Recent hands-on ADP Workforce Now experience with cycles, reports, deductions, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience preparing payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll taxation, wage-hour, garnishments.
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end processing of weekly and semimonthly payrolls.
  • Manage payroll accounting, reporting, and deductions.
  • Provide backup across payroll functions and document procedures.
  • Support audits and respond to payroll inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with wage‑and‑hour and tax requirements.

Position Summary

The Senior Payroll Administrator is a hands-on, senior‑level payroll professional responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant end‑to‑end processing of multiple U.S. and Canadian payrolls. The position independently manages assigned weekly and semimonthly payrolls, payroll accounting and reporting, tax and deduction activity, retirement‑plan support, prevailing wage and union requirements, certified payroll reporting, audits, off‑cycle payments, and payroll‑related system administration. The role also serves as a knowledgeable backup across critical payroll functions, maintains documented procedures, and provides informal guidance to Payroll Administrators.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible payroll experience, including independent end‑to‑end processing of complex, multi‑state payrolls.
  • Recent, hands‑on ADP Workforce Now payroll processing experience is required and must include direct responsibility for completing payroll cycles, running and analyzing reports, processing deductions, and troubleshooting payroll issues.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing payroll journal entries, reconciliations, payroll reports, and audit support.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll taxation, wage‑and‑hour requirements, garnishments, and payroll recordkeeping.
  • Experience with prevailing wage, certified payroll, union payroll, Canadian payroll, ADP SmartCompliance, Concur Expense, or 401k administration is strongly preferred.
  • FPC or CPP certification is preferred.

Required Technical Skills

  • ADP Workforce Now: required, recent hands‑on payroll processing experience.
  • Microsoft Excel: intermediate to advanced proficiency, including reconciliations, filters, pivot tables, lookup formulas, conditional formulas, and analysis of large data sets.
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, and shared‑file platforms: proficient.
  • Ability to learn and operate ADP SmartCompliance, Concur Expense, audit portals, banking or payment applications, and other payroll‑related systems.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Ability to manage a high volume of detailed work accurately while meeting firm payroll deadlines and handling competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to independently research discrepancies, apply payroll rules, and make sound judgment calls within established authority.
  • Proven customer‑service skills and professionalism when handling sensitive, difficult, or escalated payroll matters.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, HR, Finance, vendors, auditors, and senior leaders.
  • Strong ownership, follow‑through, reliability, and willingness to be accountable for assigned payrolls and deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, accept direction, provide constructive guidance, and support department‑wide cross‑training.
  • Exceptional discretion and commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of highly sensitive employee and financial information.
  • Commitment to accuracy, continuous improvement, documentation, and learning.
