Job summary

Idaho State University is seeking a Payroll Accountant to provide accounting, financial, and administrative support to payroll operations, including assisting with the biweekly payroll and maintaining accurate records in compliance with wage laws. This role is housed in the Office of Human Resources and reports to the AVP of Finance.

The Payroll Accountant collaborates with the Payroll Manager and Benefits Coordinator, with cross-training to ensure redundancy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• At least four years experience in accounting/finance, with at least one year payroll experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with leadership, faculty, and staff at all levels.
• Strong problem solving, financial analysis, and investigative research skills.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking capabilities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Supports biweekly payroll administration with accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepares and maintains payroll records and reports; assists with audits.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
• Cross-trains to understand payroll operations and may run payroll occasionally.
• Reconciles payroll state accounts for out-of-state tax compliance.
• Supports projects and process improvements in Payroll and Benefits.
