Job summary

Gusto is hiring seasoned engineers to join teams advancing core platform capabilities and the Payments platform. You will drive architecture decisions, scale systems, and maintain code powering experiences for millions of businesses.

Expect collaboration across engineering, product, design, data science, and operations. You will contribute to a fault-tolerant architecture, mentor colleagues, and work on large-scale production systems with a focus on modularity and growth.

Qualifications

• At least 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, mission-critical software and distributed systems.
• Experience influencing multiple teams on scaling, refactoring, and maintaining legacy products.
• Experience architecting large-scale production-level code that is maintainable and well-documented.
• Ability to communicate technical complexity and tradeoffs clearly.
• Bonus: Payments and/or Accounting domain experience; Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test the infrastructure enabling Payments, risk policy, and experience teams to tailor products.
• Scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Operations.
• Build the software platform powering multiple products for millions of businesses.
• Mentor and grow fellow engineers to create scalable solutions.
