Chexy is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own a payments domain within Chexy's core backend services. You will work on systems moving money—flows, ledgering, settlement, and direct networks/banking integrations—while setting architecture and reliability standards.

You’ll mentor engineers, design idempotent workflows, and partner with the CTO to shape the next priorities in a fast-growing fintech environment in Toronto.

Qualifications

• Substantial backend experience in production with strong emphasis on correctness in payments or financial domains.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, transactions and isolation levels.
• Experience with event-driven systems and failure modes (duplicate delivery, out-of-order, poison messages).

Responsabilités

• Own a payout or pay-in rail end-to-end: architecture, reliability, observability, and roadmap.
• Lead ledger design: double-entry, reconciliation with processors/banks, settlement timing.
• Build and harden direct integrations with payment networks and banking rails.
• Design durable event-driven workflows to ensure idempotence and recoverability.
• Set the technical bar: review architecture, define reusable patterns, push for safety.
• Define SLOs and runbooks for your domain and ensure measurable reliability.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and pairing; collaborate with CTO on priorities.
