Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a (Senior) Patient Safety Physician to lead pharmacovigilance risk management globally. This role reports to US line management and may matrix to a Lead Patient Safety physician, contributing to product safety from development through post‑marketing.

The position emphasizes leadership, regulatory knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration to support patient safety across markets, with a strong focus on ethical practice and scientific judgment.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• US residency completed or ex-US equivalent.
• Active or inactive US license to practice medicine.
• Board certification or experience in a medicine subspecialty.
• Leadership experience and ability to influence teams.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to attend meetings in person.
• Strong ethical orientation prioritizing patient safety.
• Broad medical-scientific knowledge and clinical judgement.
• Understanding of pharmacovigilance regulation in major markets.

Responsibilities

• Develop or support proactive risk management strategies for assigned compounds.
• Plan, manage and monitor pharmacovigilance activities for assigned drug responsibilities.
• Chair or support Asset Benefit Risk Team with experts in Pharmacovigilance, Medical Affairs, Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
• Lead and direct teams for investigational compounds and mentor team members.
• Provide updates of safety profiles to senior management and BI decision bodies.
• Represent PSPV in internal and external committees & bodies.
• Stay current on state-of-the-art pharmacovigilance methods and regulatory changes.
• Represent PV at US cross-functional meetings as needed.
• Represent PSPV during global health authority interactions.
