Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Sr. Pathologists' Assistant to oversee operations in the anatomic pathology, including the gross room, autopsy, and biobanking. The role leads residents and medical students, ensures accreditation readiness, and participates in quality improvement projects.

The Sr. PA will manage specimen processing, supervise technical staff, and coordinate teaching while maintaining high-quality, efficient workflows in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Biologic Sciences; NAACLS approved Pathologists' Assistant Program.
• 3-5 years of previous job-related experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensures specimens are processed appropriately (frozen section and gross examination) per SOPs in a timely, patient-safe manner; stores residual tissues per preservation protocol; leads change and handles stressful situations.
• Oversees technical staff in specimen receiving, gross room, autopsy, and biobanking; provides backup and evaluates staff to support management.
• Oversees orientation of pathology residents and medical students in surgical pathology gross room and autopsy; trains and assists residents and students in gross description, dissection, and dictation, and data entry in LIS.
• Oversees specimen management procedures including storage and disposal; manages inventory for gross room and autopsy; participates in cost containment; resolves discrepancies with physicians/clinics.
• Maintains professional communication with colleagues and customers; ensures readiness for accreditation inspections (CAP, TJC); leads QC initiatives within Anatomic Pathology.
