Job summary

ASML US, LLC in San Diego, CA is seeking a Senior IP/Patent Attorney to lead the worldwide patent portfolio in light-source technologies and to support scientists, engineers, and management driving ASML’s research and development.

You will supervise outside counsel, file and prosecute patents, and contribute to the execution of IP strategies while collaborating with internal teams to align the portfolio with business goals and mitigate risks.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state or the District of Columbia and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with excellent academic performance.
• BS in engineering or physical sciences (e.g., mechanical engineering, physics, optics, electrical engineering). An advanced degree is a plus.
• Active license to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• At least 6 years of relevant patent prosecution experience.
• Experience managing outside counsel for patent filings and prosecutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a global patent portfolio, including considering invention disclosures and strategic portfolio development.
• Supervise outside counsel to prepare and prosecute patent applications, reviewing drafts and guiding responses.
• Contribute to ASML IP strategies, including patent filing and product clearance.
• Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to align the portfolio with business goals and product plans.
• Assess competitor IP positioning and freedom-to-operate.
